When you've earned enough Affinity XP to reach a new level you will receive a quest to return to the Campfire location and talk to one of the Primals in the Affinity pairing. You'll unlock new dialogue that reveals more about their relationship.

Additionally, you may hear special non-blocking banter between paired Primals while exploring the world if both are in your active team and you're near certain trigger locations!
